STATION EIGHT
Software

Software is an important part of using technology in the classroom.  Unfortunately, most software is not free, and CAN be quite expensive.  It also takes time to become familiar with the software before you can effectively use it with your students.  But the investment of time, effort, and school funds is very worthwhile.

Software should be purchased from an “approved vendor,” ensuring the best price and delivery will be secured.  DoTS would be glad to provide you with information on purchasing specific software.

Although there is far too much wonderful software to share here, we would like to share three pieces of software that can be obtained FREE (or with VERY little cost) for any computer in DPS. (all three titles have been loaded onto the computer).

Language Arts

Inspiration® provides more powerful support for critical thinking, comprehension, reading, and writing in all curriculum areas.
Created for K-5 learners, Kidspiration® provides an easy way to apply the proven principles of visual learning. Students build graphic organizers by combining pictures, text and spoken words to represent thoughts and information.
TimeLiner makes it easy to create, illustrate, and print time lines. Simply enter events and dates, and TimeLiner organizes the events into chronological order. Print your time lines in any size to display student work and decorate your classroom.

Additionally, ET is working in collaboration with the Curriculum Department to compile supported software titles.  Although the list is growing, these sites will share with you those titles we think are great software for the classroom.
