Race Around The World |
 |
(Grades 6 - 8)
Adaptable to High School
Race Around the World was developed to teach cultural
geographic knowledge. The
writing, math, geography, science, and technology is scaffolded within
a class (and/or interclass) competition as students delve into an analysis
of their world and its six billion inhabitants.
Objectives:
- To familiarize the students with a regional understanding of
world geography, science, or teacher-directed content as they develop
a strategy to explore the world and virtually travel their planned
route, researching and learning about the world;
- To develop and refine authentic writing skills;
- To increase research skills, using library resources, maps, almanacs
and the Internet; and
- To provide motivation, as students are awarded prizes at the
end of the game for those who traveled (1) the greatest distance;
(2) the fastest; and (3) spent the least amount of money.
